And there we have it… another week has passed. The world keeps chugging along no matter how many things aren’t getting done on my To Do list.
But that is the way of things with life, and we have to learn to change and adapt. As Paul Atreides says at the end of the superior version of DUNE (David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation, that it): “I will bend like a reed in the wind.”
I may not be able to bend like a reed in the wind from a physical standpoint, but I always attempt to do so in my tumultuous real life. Sometimes that reed snaps, but most of the time, it springs back into action to face the wind another day.
The transition from summer to autumn has always been significant for my family, with my wife as a teacher and having children in school since the Bush administration. And like I do every year, I take stock as I look ahead to the rollercoaster ride through September, into Halloween season, and then downhill to the holidays.
Three projects are monopolizing my time, and I’m excited about all of them.
First is A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BLOCKHEADZ. I’ve been talking about this a lot, and we are still planning to launch the Kindle and mass market paperback in the fall. Dozens of new illustrations will be available in the book, with a complete set of comics from 2025 and the story behind the story.
We also might be able to release a few new images as teasers in the next couple weeks. Keep an eye out for that.
THEY HISS! is coming along quite nicely. The rewrite has been completed, and will need another pass before sending to editorial for clean-up and proofreading. However, it’s a short book, so it should move rather smoothly. We are still hoping for a Halloween release of this one.
And finally, after many internal delays, ECHOES IN THE JEKYLL HOUSE will be moving through editorial in the fall with our eyes on a release just in time for Christmas.
Here’s to you and that your changes are smooth as we move into the latter part of the year.
*99 Shots are complete stories, new each week, totaling 99 words or less.
Confusing Fingers by Kevin Carr
He was so happy to be at the pizzeria. So delicious.
Looking down at the pizza before him, he smiled. The pepperoni glistened upon the greasy layer of cheese.
He picked up a slice, watching the cheese drip like ribbons. Tasted so good when he chewed.
Then, he noticed his fingers holding the pizza.
Six? Did he have six fingers?
The fingers on his other hand had grown to spindles, fusing with the table.
As he chewed, laughing, he realized he didn’t remember actually taking a bite.
And the loop of his simulation reset. He was happy again.
