"Not Even a Mouse" - December 5, 2024
In the wasteland of the zombie apocalypse, a lone survivor meets a girl alone with a tragic past...
Every Thursday, Silver Gecko Publishing highlights one of my stories, either a work of short fiction, a novel, or an audiobook. This week’s selection is a sample from the audiobook of the novella “Not Even a Mouse.”
This is the third installment of my zombie apocalypse series. (The first is “Not the End,” available in my horror anthology 13 TURNS. The second is “Gobble,” a standalone novelette that was featured last month due to its Thanksgiving connections.)
I’m proud of this story because it achieves what all good horror does: inspect the human condition. There’s also something in these three stories, for which the zombies symbolize in our society. Especially considering the events of recent years, this symbolic threat has been foretold not just by me but many other artists and writers. Drop me a line if you think you know what the zombies represent here.
This story is available on audiobook NOW through Audible. And if you have Amazon Music Unlimited, you can listen to it as part of your subscription. (You get one audiobook a month from Audible’s library… why not check out my picturesque holiday zombie landscape?) Check it out if you like the sample.
