Last week, I mentioned that this was time for vacations in the Silver Gecko estate, and I was one that went on those vacations. I am a huge fan of cruises, so my wife and I took a cruise with our sons to Mexico. While they were galivanting in Mayan ruins in Cozumel, I was staying on the air-conditioned boat, enjoying the drink package.

Hey, who can blame me? My body type and skin tone does not mix well with the Mexican sun in June.

But now, we are back, and I am getting my ducks in a row as we roll through the summer. (Seriously, though… where the hell did all these ducks come from?)

The projects that are taking top priority include A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BLOCKHEADZ. This will be a collection of our first year with the comic strip, along with some background information about how it came to being from our twisted, little minds. And, inspired by my vacation, look ahead to the coming weeks when the BlockHeadZ go on vacation themselves.

My non-fiction book MOVIE TRUTH: REAL ANSWERS TO REEL QUESTIONS, culled from the pages of Film School Rejects during the heyday of movie journalism on the Internet, is already available on Kindle. The paperback version and an audiobook version will be available in the coming months.

THEY HISS!, my love letter to 90s technothrillers, is in the rewriting stage. Look for that one soon.

And of course, there’s ECHOES IN THE JEKYLL HOUSE, currently in the proofreading stage.

Plain Sight by Kevin Carr

The punks shattered the window to the run-down church.

The church was a mess already, but the punks were hell-bent on leaving it worse. Using crowbars and baseball bats, they took out their frustrations on whatever they could find.

Then they found The Room, sealed with an iron bolt.

When they broke through, they found a single bottle of wine.

One punk snatched the bottle and drank greedily.

As he passed the bottle, he started to convulse.

Hunched over, he said, “I’ve been waiting. Hidden for years.”

He grinned wide, his eyes red…

“They hid me in plain sight.”
