A GOOD DISGUISE by Kevin Carr

The Holy Man stood in the doorway, welcoming the child into his chamber. Obediently, the child shuffled past him.

The Holy Man locked the door behind them, and with expected urgency, they both disrobed.

As his frock fell to the floor, the Holy Man revealed the gargantuan, spindly legs hidden in his underbelly. His neck split open, and a shiny black proboscis emerged.

And he fed.

After the draining, the child left. As he watched the child shuffle away, the Holy Man sighed and licked his lips.

“Ah, the delicious shield of faith,” he said softly.
