Welcome to Fall! (Yeah, I know Fall doesn’t officially start for twelve more days, but at least in my small part of the world, we are seeing some cooler weather and crisp nights. It’s just a matter of time until the Ohio landscape looks like the side of a Angry Orchard package, and I for one cannot wait!)
One of my favorite things to do in September and October is to watch a bunch of horror movies. I already started this, and I’ve already made my way through Scanners, The Brood, The Lair of the White Worm, An American Werewolf in London, Silver Bullet, and The Funhouse.
The list will go on! And it is offering plenty of inspiration for my books coming out in the next couple months.
We are almost done with revision input for THEY HISS! One final run-through, then some proofreading, and it will be ready to go.
Also on the chopping block is ECHOES IN THE JEKYLL HOUSE. That took a back seat for a chunk of 2025, but it is with striking distance of completion.
But the next book ready to be birthed into this world is A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BLOCKHEADZ. Internal illustrations are nearing completion, and we are working on layout now. The updated publication date is October 1, so keep your eyes peeled.
And to help give you all an idea of what’s coming in that book, we will be publishing a sample chapter here later this week.
And speaking of the BlockHeadZ… we are introducing a new character this week. Welcome to the family! You’ll find out its name very soon!
Watch this space!
*99 Shots are complete stories, new each week, totaling 99 words or less.
Bucket of Grief by Kevin Carr
Job first noticed the bucket the day of his son’s funeral. It sat alone in the basement, filled to the brim with turgid, purple liquid. That night, Job emptied it into the gutter and left the bucket on the curb.
The next day, the bucket was back. In the basement. Filled to the brim.
And the next… and the next…
Every night, Job took the bucket to the curb and emptied it.
It always returned, but less full over time.
When the liquid disappeared, he found a new bucket in the basement. Full to the brim.
