As civilization was in free-fall, we saw the worst of people rise to the top.

Violent, murdering psychopaths took over, feeding the masses with desperation, fear, and hate.

Enemies were targeted, and innocent people died.

Soon violence on a wide scale became acceptable, and not much later, expected.

“This is not us,” said the leaders, standing atop stolen burial grounds, honoring colonization lords, fueled by greed, in front of buildings constructed by slave labor. “This is not who we are as a people.”

But it was. It was obvious that this is exactly who we have always been.
